Principal's Book of the Month

Our book of the month for August, My Teacher Sleeps in School by Leatie Weiss, focuses on the character trait of school pride. Mollie and her friends make some amusing deductions about the life of their teacher, Ms. Marsh. As Ms. Marsh gently guides them to realize that they’ve jumped to

the wrong conclusions, your student will realize that anyone can make a mistake. We want to think of

our Toney home as a place where people care about others – where people pitch in to help and correct wrong assumptions without being judgmental. Life is easier when you are part of a network of friends and family -- a neighborhood. One starts building a good neighborhood when one decides to become a good neighbor.

My Teacher Sleeps in School illustrates the character trait of school pride as it shows that going to
school can be an exciting experience – if you have a positive attitude. At Toney, we try to instill school pride in our students, because as educators we realize that taking pride in your surroundings affects the pride you take  in yourself and in your work. As a school we will be discussing ways that we can demonstrate our school pride. As you talk with your child about the school day, ask him/her about some of the ways to show school pride.

As we work together this year our goal will be, as always, what is best for each child. We will promote our goal using the elements of respect, dialogue, and mentoring. By working together – students, teachers, parents, and community – we will help our children to develop into their full potential.
