As the holiday season approaches, it’s a time for thinking about joy and love. It’s a time for focusing on positive attributes of our family, friends, and neighbors. Our book of the month for December is The Teddy Bear by David McPhail. We’re using this book to focus on the character trait of caring.
The Teddy Bear is based on an event in the author’s life when he saw a homeless man cuddling a toy bear. David MPhail developed this event into a story of a young boy who gives his beloved teddy bear to lonely man. The book shows our students that giving help thoughtfully can have a far reaching and long lasting effect on individuals and communities.
The Teddy Bear illustrates the character trait of caring by showing the effect a small gift or kindness may have on another’s life. During this holiday season please help your family find ways to demonstrate caring and concern for others.
